EN 10305

EN 10305 Precision Tube

EN 10305 is a family of cold-drawn and cold-sized precision tube specifications split into parts. Each part covers a different manufacturing route or a different duty, so the part number — not the family title — is what a mill can actually quote against.

The family

Six parts, six different products

The parts differ by manufacturing route and, in two cases, by the duty they are intended for. Selecting the part is the first decision; the condition, grade and tolerances follow it.

EN 10305 parts: what each part covers and when to choose it
PartWhat it coversWhen to choose it
EN 10305-1Seamless cold-drawn precision tube.Choose where a cold-drawn seamless tube is required by the drawing or the duty.
EN 10305-2Welded cold-drawn precision tube.Choose where a welded tube subsequently cold-drawn meets the drawing.
EN 10305-3Welded cold-sized precision tube.Choose where close dimensional control is needed without the cold-drawn route.
EN 10305-4Seamless cold-drawn tube for hydraulic and pneumatic power systems.Choose where the duty is a hydraulic or pneumatic power system and the drawing invokes Part 4.
EN 10305-5Welded and cold-sized square and rectangular tube.Choose for non-circular precision sections rather than fluid-conveying round tube.
EN 10305-6Welded cold-drawn tube for hydraulic and pneumatic power systems.Choose where a welded cold-drawn route is permitted for a power-system duty.

Part selection warning. Parts 4 and 6 are written for hydraulic and pneumatic power systems, while the other parts are general precision-tube specifications. Which part applies to a given drawing is the design authority’s decision. This page describes the structure of the family and does not select a part for your application.

Order fields

Six fields that make an EN 10305 order complete

An enquiry that names only the family leaves the part, condition and tolerance class unresolved. State each field below against its own basis.

1

Standard part and edition

The EN 10305 part number and the edition the contract invokes. “EN 10305” alone does not identify a product.

2

Delivery condition

The condition the tube is supplied in. The condition is a separate field from the part and changes the dimensional and mechanical outcome.

3

Steel grade

The grade written on the drawing, stated on its own terms.

4

Dimensions and tolerances

OD, ID or wall as applicable, with the controlling dimension named and the tolerance class that applies to it.

5

Surface and cleanliness

The as-delivered surface requirement, and any cleaning or protection needed for the duty.

6

Documents and inspection

The certificate and inspection scope the buyer requires, referenced to the drawing revision.

Hydraulic duties

Where a precision-tube decision meets a hydraulic duty

If the tube carries fluid in a power system, the part number is only the beginning. The fitting interface, cleanliness requirement and pressure design are separate decisions.

  • Name the EN 10305 part, edition, grade and delivery condition — not the family title.
  • Supply the chosen fitting system and its tubing requirements alongside the tube enquiry.
  • State the design pressure and temperature range as a designer-approved basis, not as a tube property.
  • State the cleanliness criteria, verification method and whether re-cleaning after cutting is included.
  • State the end-preparation and end-protection scope, including caps and preservation period.
  • State the documentation and inspection scope, referenced to the drawing revision.

Hydraulic steel tube

The Hydraulic Steel Tube page separates line tubing from cylinder-barrel requirements, and provides the specification builder and RFQ handoff for both duties.
