Product and applications

Choose wire rod by material and application

Start with the material and quality your finished product needs. A carbon, alloy or stainless family identifies the broad material; the named grade, application quality and delivery condition define what your production team must accept. Our principal St3sp 6.5 mm product is highlighted below, alongside other wire-rod enquiry choices.

What will you make or resell from the rod?

Pick the closest match to set your end use. These are request inputs for the enquiry — they do not approve a grade for your process.

Wire drawing and wire processing

Repeated breakages, surface defects and inconsistent lots can disrupt a drawing schedule. Share the target finished-wire diameter, your drawing route and surface or heat-treatment needs so the proposed grade and rod can be reviewed against your process.

Nail manufacturing

If your factory draws its own wire, specify the nail type, finished-wire requirement and forming process. These details help your production team assess whether the proposed wire-rod grade is an acceptable input.

Mesh and fencing production

Tell us whether you produce welded mesh, woven mesh or fencing, and what wire your process requires. Drawing requirements, surface preparation and any welding acceptance need to match that end product.

Industrial buying and wholesale

Build the enquiry around the factory's or customer's actual order: the required material, grade, diameter, tonnage, origin restrictions, documents and destination. That gives you a clear basis for comparing the purchase or preparing your resale offer.

These applications concern factories that buy rod directly; a plant purchasing finished wire needs a different product requirement. Explore the wider steel for manufacturing context.

Wire-rod material families

Choose the family that matches your written specification. If you are still comparing options, describe the finished product and the properties your process needs.

Low-carbon steel wire rod

For drawing and general-processing enquiries, identify the required grade, finished-wire target and surface condition. The named grade and lot evidence determine acceptance.

Medium-carbon steel wire rod

Share the required grade and finished-wire strength or forming specification, including any subsequent treatment. Avoid comparing offers by carbon family alone.

High-carbon steel wire rod

For spring, rope, prestressing or other high-strength requirements, supply the particular end-product standard and quality limits. Those applications have different acceptance requirements.

Alloy steel wire rod

Provide the engineering grade or customer specification, processing route and delivery condition. The alloy designation must match the part or finished wire you plan to make.

Stainless steel wire rod

State the stainless grade, forming or drawing process, surface condition and service environment. Include the corrosion or finish requirement your customer specifies.

Application quality is a separate purchasing choice

Drawing rod, CHQ rod and welding-quality rod are not interchangeable labels. Select the requirement you need and supply the relevant grade or customer specification; material family alone does not establish suitability.

Fasteners and cold heading

For bolts, rivets or other cold-formed parts, request the CHQ/cold-extrusion quality, part specification, surface limits and required tests.

Welding consumables

For welding wire or electrode-core production, provide the named welding grade and chemistry limits for the finished consumable.

Springs, wire rope and prestressing

Identify which finished product you make, its standard and required properties. Spring, rope and PC wire/strand requirements are assessed separately.

Tyre reinforcement

Distinguish steel cord from bead wire and include the grade, quality controls and drawing/coating requirements your product needs.

Engineering components

For chain, bearing, free-cutting, tool or other engineering applications, send the component specification and required material quality.

Other wire products

For galvanized wire, steel fibres, cold-worked reinforcement or a particular stainless application, state the finished product, processing route and acceptance requirements.

Need a specific delivery condition? Include hot rolled/as-rolled, annealed, normalized or another required treatment, together with surface preparation, diameter and coil format. Options are confirmed for the actual grade and enquiry.

St3sp 6.5 mm remains our featured product; it is not an automatic substitute for a specialist quality. If you need a different material or quality, choose it in the enquiry without carrying over the featured grade or diameter.

Explore the relevant product families: carbon steel products, alloy steel products, stainless steel products and hot rolled steel products.

Buyer priorities

Protect more than the price per tonne

Keep production needs visible

Include your required receiving date and recurring tonnage. Ask for the stock location, quantity and preparation schedule so you can assess the offer against your next production run.

Address breakages and reject risk

Share the surface, dimensional and test requirements that matter on your line. Review the proposed lot evidence before accepting a grade substitution or increasing the order.

Compare the real order cost

Put freight, unloading, handling, expected processing loss and the delivery basis beside the material price. A lower headline price is not the whole purchasing decision.

Match the order to your cash flow

State your initial quantity, trial needs, payment request and preferred delivery stages. MOQ, trial arrangements and commercial terms are confirmed for the offer.

Quality and equipment fit

Review the evidence behind the offered coils

An MTC needs to relate to the material you will receive. Bring your production and quality requirements into the enquiry so the proposed specification, test evidence and coil format can be assessed together.

Checking the diameter and surface of steel wire rod before processing.

Diameter and surface condition are checked against the agreed acceptance criteria — not against a grade label alone.

Technical buying insight

Match the grade, quality and delivery condition to your process

Material family, grade, application quality and delivery condition answer different questions. A high-carbon label does not define a spring specification; a low-carbon label does not establish CHQ quality. Your written requirement and the actual offered lot are the basis for approval.

  1. Define the input.Record the material family, named grade, application quality, rod diameter, governing wire-rod standard and customer limits.
  2. Review the lot.Compare relevant chemistry, test results, surface condition and tolerances with those requirements.
  3. Check the process.Include the finished-wire target, drawing, forming or welding requirements and any preparation or treatment.
  4. Check the coil.Confirm the dimensions, handling capacity and any agreed evaluation before increasing the order.

Method: compare the written customer/process requirement with the proposed product and lot evidence; record any open acceptance or equipment issue. Featured-product note: the published St3sp grade reference gives carbon-steel grade context under GOST 380/DSTU 2651. It does not replace the offered rod's delivery specification or justify transferring sheet/structural mechanical values to a 6.5 mm rod order. voestalpine's wire-rod guidance provides wider processing context.

Price, payment and delivery

Compare the offer that reaches your receiving point

Request a price for your actual tonnage and destination. For a UAE factory, the useful question is what the order costs at the plant or warehouse and when it can be received. For a trader, the offer also needs to match the customer's specification and resale delivery basis.

CompareAsk the offer to state
Product basisRequested material family, named grade, diameter, application quality, governing specification, delivery condition and any deviation.
Quantity and coilsOrder tonnage, coil format, confirmed order quantity and agreed variation.
Delivery basisDelivery term and named plant, warehouse or port; included and excluded transport/handling charges.
Stock and timingConfirmed stock/sourcing location and quantity, preparation date, dispatch plan and estimated arrival separately.
Payment and validityPayment stages, price validity and any conditions for trial, staged or recurring orders.
Approval and documentsMill/origin, required MTC, inspection and any evaluation agreed before release.

For an imported order, include applicable freight, port/clearance, duty/tax and onward-delivery costs where they are outside the quoted price. For production planning, add your own unloading, coil-change, processing-loss and downtime assumptions. Compare both offers on the same basis rather than assuming every charge is included.

If you need recurring supply, send the expected tonnage per period, delivery stages and the specification that needs to remain consistent. If you are assessing a second source, explain the evaluation quantity and documents you need before a larger commitment.

Buyer questions

Questions before you commit to the order

These are the objections that decide whether an offer can be used, answered directly rather than left to the negotiation.

How do I get the price and check availability?

Send the material/quality, grade, diameter, required tonnage, receiving location and delivery date. For the featured product, specify St3sp 6.5 mm. Ask the proposal to identify the quantity and stock/sourcing location, price validity, included charges and dispatch/arrival basis. This page does not publish a live price or inventory feed.

Can I review the MTC and mill details before ordering?

Include that request in the enquiry, along with the properties and test basis your quality team needs. The documents should identify the mill and offered heat/lot and link to the material proposed for your order. Document availability and the review stage are confirmed in the proposal.

How do I select a grade for my drawing, nail, mesh or specialist process?

Start with the finished product and accepted grade/customer specification, then review the offered lot evidence, surface condition and processing requirements. For CHQ, welding, springs, rope, prestressing or tyre reinforcement, include the application-specific quality and tests. If considering the featured St3sp 6.5 mm product, assess it against those requirements; do not assume equivalence to SAE 1006/1008 or a specialist quality.

Which wire-rod types can I enquire about?

You can submit low-, medium- or high-carbon, alloy or stainless wire-rod requirements, together with the named grade, diameter and quality you need. Include application-specific requirements such as drawing, CHQ, welding, spring, rope or prestressing quality where relevant. These are enquiry categories; availability is confirmed for the requested specification. Our principal product is St3sp 6.5 mm hot rolled plain carbon steel wire rod.

Can I request a trial quantity, recurring deliveries or payment terms?

Send your initial quantity, expected tonnage per period, receiving stages and requested payment structure. Ask the proposal to define MOQ, any trial arrangement, payment milestones, price validity and the repeat-order specification. These terms need agreement for the actual offer; choosing trial or recurring supply in the form does not reserve material or guarantee a facility.

How should we handle material that does not match the order?

Agree the inspection and claim basis before purchase. At receipt, retain heat/coil identification, the linked documents and relevant inspection results or photos. Record the discrepancy against the accepted specification and contact the commercial team under the agreed procedure; remedy and claim terms are order-specific.

Ready to price your next wire-rod order?

Send your material/quality, grade, diameter, tonnage and receiving location, together with your production or resale requirement. For our principal product, choose St3sp 6.5 mm. Add the stock, MTC, payment or delivery questions you need answered before committing.
