Read the grade tree

A grade always belongs to one standard family and one material class. ASTM and EN often describe the same steel — A36 and S235, or A240 304 and 1.4301 — so the branch is about the naming system, not the material itself.

How many grade branches are there?

Six — ASTM, EN, API, carbon, stainless and specifications. Each is a standard or material-class branch; together they cover every supplied product's grade path.

What is the difference between ASTM and EN grades?

They are two designation systems that often describe the same steel — A36 and S235JR, or A240 304 and 1.4301. The branch is about the naming and documentation system, not the material itself.

Is a standard the same as a full specification?

No. A standard names the grade and chemistry; a specification adds dimensions, tolerances and test requirements. They are handled together at quotation.

Which standard should I specify?

ASTM, EN, API or BS, whichever your project names. If none is specified, we cross-reference your grade, dimension and application to the appropriate standard.

How do I know which grade I need?
